You can watch The Last of Us seasons 1 and 2 on Max/HBO Max in the United States and Australia, on NOW or Sky in the United Kingdom, and on Crave in Canada. The exact app name, plan, price, picture quality, downloads, and third-party billing route depend on your country.

Season 1 has nine episodes and season 2 has seven. HBO has renewed the series for season 3, but this guide does not invent a release date or episode schedule before HBO announces one.

This guide uses current first-party HBO, Max, Sky, NOW, and Crave pages reviewed on August 3, 2026. Catalogs, plan names, prices, and territories can change. Start2Watch has not completed identical long-term playback tests on every service, plan, country, and device.

Quick answer by country

Do not assume a US Max subscription works as a substitute for the licensed service in another country. Open the official title page in your actual location and confirm that both seasons appear before subscribing.

Is The Last of Us on Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, or Disney+?

The television series is an HBO Original. In the United States, the documented subscription destination is Max/HBO Max. A Prime Video Channels, app-store, cable, mobile, or internet-provider listing can be a billing route to Max, not evidence that the series is included with an ordinary Prime membership.

The Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle gives eligible US customers separate access to all three apps, but the show remains part of the Max catalog. Buying that bundle does not move every Max title into the Hulu or Disney+ interface.

Storefronts may also show season purchases in some countries. A digital purchase is separate from subscription access and should be evaluated by season, resolution, captions, refund policy, and account ecosystem. Search the exact title and year rather than assuming that a familiar app includes it.

Where to watch The Last of Us in the United States

HBO's official season 2 announcement says the seven-episode season aired on HBO and became available to stream on Max. Max's own title help page confirms that the series is available to stream and documents captions, selected audio-description languages, and seven season 2 episodes.

Direct Max plans

The current US Max plan page lists:

• Basic with Ads at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year;
• Standard at $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year; and
• Premium at $20.99 per month or $209.99 per year.

Basic with Ads and Standard support two simultaneous streams in Full HD. Standard adds up to 30 eligible offline downloads. Premium supports four simultaneous streams, up to 100 eligible downloads, and 4K UHD/Dolby formats on selected titles and devices.

Do not buy Premium only because the plan supports 4K. Open the series page on the intended device and look for the actual 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, or Dolby Atmos badge. Plan capability is not a promise that every episode, device, connection, or audio track uses the maximum format.

HBO Only and provider access

Max also documents a US HBO Only option at $16.99 per month for HBO programming. Its own comparison notes that Max Standard is the same stated monthly price while including HBO plus a larger catalog and downloads.

If HBO is already part of a cable, internet, mobile, or other provider package, use Max's provider sign-in flow and verify eligibility before buying a duplicate direct subscription. Provider access, plan mapping, billing, and cancellation are controlled by that provider.

Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle

The official US bundle page lists a $16.99 monthly With Ads bundle and a $29.99 monthly No Ads bundle. The bundle requires account activation for the individual apps. The Premium Max plan is not included in the bundle, and ads can still appear in selected live or linear content.

Choose the bundle only when the household will genuinely use the other services. If the goal is only The Last of Us, compare the current standalone Max plan and any HBO access already included with another provider.

Where to watch The Last of Us in the United Kingdom

Sky's current title page says seasons 1 and 2 are available on Sky Atlantic, HBO Max, and NOW. NOW's dedicated title page separately confirms that both seasons can be streamed in the UK with an Entertainment membership or an Entertainment & HBO Max membership.

NOW memberships

NOW's current FAQ lists promotional starting prices and two contract styles. Entertainment memberships start from £3.99 per month on a six-month minimum term, while flexible pricing is higher. Entertainment & HBO Max memberships start from £6.99 per month on a six-month minimum term, with a higher cancel-anytime price.

The dedicated title page currently states that both seasons are available with either of the named entertainment routes. Verify the final checkout page because promotions, minimum terms, renewal prices, and included HBO Max access can change.

Picture quality, ads, and simultaneous streams on NOW

NOW says a basic membership normally allows one stream. Boost can add Full HD, surround sound, reduced on-demand advertising, and two simultaneous devices; Ultra Boost can provide selected 4K/HDR/Dolby Atmos content and three simultaneous devices.

Those are service-level capabilities. Confirm the format badge on each episode and device. Live channels and promotional trailers can still contain advertising even with an add-on described as ad-free for on-demand programs.

Sky customers

Sky Atlantic is the relevant Sky channel and on-demand collection. Existing Sky customers should search the title on the box or Sky Go before purchasing a separate NOW membership. Package eligibility and UHD access vary by subscription and equipment.

Do not rely on an old article that says one episode was released free on YouTube in 2023. That was a time-limited promotion for the first episode, not a permanent licensed route to both seasons.

Where to watch The Last of Us in Canada

Crave maintains an official series page for The Last of Us. Search the title while signed out first, then confirm both season selectors and the current plan required at checkout.

Crave plan names, prices, advertising, downloads, supported devices, and simultaneous-stream rules can change. If Crave is supplied through a television or internet provider, compare provider access with direct Crave billing before subscribing twice.

The series' availability on Crave does not mean a US Max account should be used in Canada. Use the Canadian service and billing route authorized for your location.

Where to watch The Last of Us in Australia

Max/HBO Max is the direct Australian streaming route. Max's Australian help center documents support for phones, tablets, computers, Fire TV, Android TV/Google TV, compatible Samsung televisions, Xbox, and other listed platforms. It also provides AirPlay, Chromecast, or HDMI alternatives for an unsupported television.

Search the series page inside the Australian app and verify both seasons before purchasing. Local plan names, prices, download allowances, and simultaneous-stream limits can differ from the United States, so do not copy the US price table into an Australian checkout decision.

Install the official store version of the app. Max specifically warns that Android installations outside the official Google Play store are unsupported. There is no need to sideload an unknown APK to watch a title offered through a supported local app.

What about Europe and other countries?

Max/HBO Max is available in many—but not all—countries. Other markets can use an HBO licensing partner, broadcaster, or local streaming service. Rights can move when distribution contracts expire.

Use this order:

1. Open the local Max/HBO Max site or app and search the exact series.
2. If the service is not offered locally, check HBO's announced regional partner or a recognized legal availability guide with the correct country selected.
3. Open the destination's official title page and verify season selectors, plan, price, and device.
4. Treat rental or season-purchase listings as separate from subscription inclusion.

Max has announced a return to the HBO Max name. During the transition, official help pages, app stores, and provider portals may not all change labels at the same moment. The company says the account, profile, app experience, plans, and pricing continue through the name change; do not create a second account only because one screen says Max and another says HBO Max.

How many episodes are available?

Season 1 contains nine episodes. Season 2 contains seven episodes, which is confirmed by HBO's pressroom and Max's title help page. Both completed seasons are available on demand through the country-specific routes above.

HBO renewed the series for a third season in April 2025. Renewal is not a release schedule. Until HBO publishes an official date, episode count, and rollout, avoid countdown pages that present estimates or production rumors as confirmed streaming information.

Can you watch The Last of Us for free?

No current official source reviewed for this guide establishes a permanent, complete, universally available free stream for both seasons.

Legitimate lower-cost possibilities can include:

• HBO access already included with an eligible provider;
• a documented new-customer or partner promotion shown at official checkout;
• a NOW saver offer with a minimum term;
• a discounted annual plan; or
• an official free episode or screening explicitly announced by HBO or a local rights holder.

A trial or promotion is not universal. Check eligibility, renewal date, cancellation method, plan restrictions, and country before entering payment details. Do not describe an expired 2023 YouTube episode promotion as a current free-season option.

Sites offering every episode without an authorized app, rights-holder page, or credible company identity can expose viewers to deceptive billing, malicious extensions, notification spam, and copied login forms. Use the official route for your country.

Supported devices and offline downloads

Max supports major phones, tablets, browsers, streaming players, smart TVs, set-top boxes, and consoles, but its help pages specify model and operating-system requirements. NOW similarly publishes a device list covering Fire TV, Samsung, LG, PlayStation, Xbox, Roku, VIDAA, computers, Android, Google TV, Apple TV, iOS, Sony, and Chromecast.

Downloads

On Max, offline downloads require an eligible ad-free plan and a supported phone or tablet. The current US plan comparison lists 30 downloads on Standard and 100 on Premium, subject to title and category limits. Computers and television devices do not support Max downloads.

NOW also supports downloads under its documented rules, but availability, expiry, and device limits apply. Crave and other local partners use their own plan terms.

Download before travel while the account is in good standing, keep the app updated, and open it online before leaving when the provider requires license verification. An offline download is encrypted in the app; it is not a transferable video file.

Simultaneous streams

US Max currently allows two streams on Basic with Ads and Standard and four on Premium. NOW's base and add-on stream limits differ. Crave, Australian Max, and provider-billed plans must be checked separately.

If a “too many devices” message appears, stop playback on another device and review the account's device list. Changing a password or signing out unknown devices is appropriate when the activity is not recognized.

Captions, audio description, ASL, and languages

Max's title help page documents subtitles, closed captions in English and Spanish, and audio description in selected languages. HBO also announced American Sign Language versions alongside season 2 episodes on Max.

Availability varies by country, episode, plan, and device. Open an episode, select the audio/subtitle control, and inspect the actual tracks. A platform-wide accessibility feature does not prove that every language or descriptive track is present on every episode.

How to start watching without buying twice

1. Search the official app already supplied by your TV, broadband, mobile, or streaming provider.
2. Open the series and confirm seasons 1 and 2 appear.
3. If asked to subscribe, identify who will bill the account.
4. Compare direct, bundle, provider, annual, and minimum-term options.
5. Confirm ads, resolution, downloads, streams, devices, and cancellation terms.
6. Activate provider access before opening a second direct account.
7. Save the renewal date and receipt.

Confirm the profile and country

Confirm the subscription is active

Open Account or Subscription and identify the billing provider. A payment shown in Apple, Google, Amazon, Sky, a cable company, or a mobile account may need a separate activation step before Max recognizes access.

Update the official app

Update the streaming app and device software from the official store. Restart the app and device before reinstalling. Avoid clearing app data until the account email, provider login, and download consequences are understood.

Check one episode versus the whole service

If other titles play, the problem may be a single episode, parental rating, audio track, or temporary catalog issue. If nothing plays, test the provider status, account, network, and another supported device.

Do not use a VPN as an entitlement fix

A VPN does not purchase local distribution rights, activate a provider account, or guarantee service access. Streaming services can enforce country, billing, household, and travel terms. Use the licensed route for the location where you are actually watching.

Spoiler-safe viewing order

Watch season 1 episodes 1 through 9, followed by season 2 episodes 1 through 7. The official companion podcast and making-of material are optional and can contain episode spoilers, so open them after the corresponding episode.

The television series and PlayStation games are separate products. A game purchase or PlayStation Plus benefit does not include the HBO series, and a Max subscription does not include the games.
