Kodi can run on compatible Fire OS Fire TV devices as an Android application. It does not require rooting, “jailbreaking,” or a preconfigured build. The safe approach is to identify the operating system, download the stable Android APK only from Kodi’s official website, grant installation permission only to the installer you use, and turn that permission off afterward.
This guide does not install unofficial builds, repositories, add-ons, or content packages. Kodi’s official download page states that Kodi contains no content; use it only with media and services you have the right to access.

Check compatibility before downloading anything
Amazon now lists both Fire OS and Vega OS Fire TV devices. Kodi’s public Fire TV installation method uses the Android APK, so confirm the operating system first.

Amazon’s current device table identifies the Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) and Fire TV Stick HD (2026) as Vega OS devices. Those should not be treated like Android-based Fire OS sticks. Amazon’s Vega developer documentation uses VPKG packages and Vega tools, not Android APK installation.
On Fire TV, open Settings → My Fire TV or Device & Software → About and record the device name and software information. Compare the model with Amazon’s current specification table when necessary.
What you need
- a compatible Fire OS Fire TV device;
- the paired Fire TV remote;
- a stable internet connection;
- enough free internal storage;
- an installer or browser obtained from the Amazon Appstore;
- the official Kodi Android download page:

Do not use a search result, shortened code, file locker, “fully loaded” build, social-media attachment, or modified APK. Those routes make it harder to verify who produced the software.
1. Check storage and update Fire TV
Before installing, open Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications and review available space where shown. Remove only applications you recognize and no longer use. A failed installation can be caused by insufficient storage even when the download completes.
Then open Settings → My Fire TV or Device & Software → About → Check for Updates. Menu labels vary. Restart after an update if Fire TV asks.

2. Install a downloader from the Amazon Appstore
From the Fire TV Home screen, search the Amazon Appstore for a reputable browser or download utility available in your region. Confirm the publisher, app listing, permissions, and recent reviews before installing.
This guide does not depend on a numeric downloader code. Codes can change destination without changing the number displayed in an old tutorial. You will enter Kodi’s official domain directly.
If your organization manages the Fire TV or the installer is unavailable in your region, do not bypass administrative controls. Use the advanced ADB method only if you own or administer the device and understand the network exposure it creates.
3. Reveal Developer Options when necessary
On supported Fire OS versions, open Settings → My Fire TV or Device & Software. If Developer Options is not visible:
- Open About.
- Highlight the current Fire TV device name.
- Press the remote’s Select/center button seven times.
- Return to the previous menu.
Amazon’s ADB documentation describes the seven-press activation for some software versions. Menus differ across generations, and Amazon notes that the Developer Tools Menu is not supported on Fire OS 14. If the expected controls do not exist, verify the OS and device documentation instead of following screenshots for a different model.
4. Allow the chosen installer—temporarily
Open Developer Options → Install Unknown Apps or the equivalent Apps from Unknown Sources control. On systems with app-specific controls, enable the permission only for the downloader or browser you chose.
This permission does not make an APK trustworthy. It only allows that app to request package installation. Keep ADB Debugging off for the downloader method; it is not required.

5. Open Kodi’s official Android download page
In the downloader or browser, type the full address:
https://kodi.tv/download/android/
Check the padlock/HTTPS indicator where the browser shows one and confirm the hostname is exactly kodi.tv before downloading. Kodi’s official page currently offers the stable Kodi 21.3 “Omega” release as well as prerelease and development builds.
For a normal installation, choose Recommended, not Prerelease or Development Builds. A stable release reduces avoidable compatibility and update problems.
6. Choose the Android CPU package carefully
Kodi’s Android page offers ARMV7A (32-bit) and ARMV8A (64-bit) packages. Processor marketing alone does not prove which Android application binary interface the operating system exposes.
Use Amazon’s specification page for the exact model and Kodi’s current Android guidance. The archived Kodi Android FAQ says ARMV7A is the choice for most users and that ARMV8A requires both the system-on-chip and Android version to be 64-bit. If the 64-bit package reports that it is incompatible, remove the failed download and verify whether the model requires ARMV7A.
Do not install multiple random APK variants. Never use an x86 build on a typical ARM-based Fire TV unless official specifications explicitly identify an x86 processor.
7. Install the official APK
After the official download finishes:
- Open the downloaded APK from the installer’s download list.
- Review the Android package-installation prompt.
- Select Install.
- Wait for the success message.
- Select Open for the first launch or Done to clean up first.
If installation fails, record the exact message. Common categories include incompatible package, insufficient storage, a corrupted/incomplete download, or an existing package signed differently. Do not solve a signature conflict by downloading another vendor’s “fixed” Kodi build.
8. Delete the APK and revoke installation permission
The installer APK is no longer needed after Kodi is installed. Delete the downloaded file through the downloader’s own file list or Fire TV storage interface.
Then return to Developer Options → Install Unknown Apps and turn the downloader’s permission off. If you enabled ADB for an advanced method, disable ADB Debugging too.
These steps reduce accidental installation and unnecessary network exposure. They do not remove Kodi itself.
9. Launch and verify Kodi
Amazon says sideloaded Fire TV apps can appear in the Apps library and under Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications. Select Kodi and choose Launch application if it is not visible on Home.
On first launch:
- allow only permissions required for media you intend to access;
- keep the default skin until stability is confirmed;
- do not add unverified repositories or “build wizards”;
- verify the installed version in Kodi’s system information;
- test with a local file or a lawful official add-on.

Advanced alternative: install with ADB from a computer
Use this only on a Fire OS device you own or administer. Amazon documents ADB for developers who install and test their own applications.
- Download the stable Kodi Android APK from

- On Fire TV, enable ADB Debugging and note the device IP address under About → Network.
- Keep the computer and Fire TV on a trusted private network.
- Connect with
adb connect FIRE_TV_IPand approve the Fire TV authorization prompt. - Install with

- Disconnect and disable ADB Debugging when finished.
Do not expose ADB through router port forwarding or use it on a public/shared network. Do not accept a debugging authorization from an unknown computer.
Amazon documents adb install -r for reinstalling an existing package while retaining its additional user data and cache. Back up important Kodi configuration before an upgrade, and download the replacement package from Kodi’s official site.
Legal and privacy boundaries
Kodi’s official download notice says the application contains no content. You supply local or remote media and may install third-party plugins. Team Kodi does not endorse consuming pirated content that would otherwise require payment.
An add-on being technically installable does not establish that it has distribution rights. Avoid products marketed as “fully loaded,” repositories that impersonate services, and instructions that disable security without a clear reason.
Only enter a streaming account credential into an official provider add-on or application whose publisher and authorization you have verified. Do not share M3U URLs, tokens, or account details in public troubleshooting forums.
Troubleshooting installation problems
“App not installed” or package incompatible
Confirm that the device runs Fire OS rather than Vega OS, then verify the APK architecture, free storage, stable-vs-prerelease channel, and official source. Delete the incomplete file and download once more from kodi.tv if needed.
Developer Options does not appear
Verify the exact device and OS. On supported systems, highlight the device name under About and press Select seven times. Do not assume a Vega OS or Fire OS 14 screen matches an older Fire OS tutorial.
Kodi opens and immediately closes
Restart Fire TV, check storage, and confirm the installed Kodi build supports the OS and architecture. Clear Kodi’s cache before considering Clear Data; clearing data removes its local configuration.
Kodi is missing from the Home screen
Open Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → Kodi → Launch application. It may also appear in the Apps library or Recent row.
Video playback buffers
Installation succeeded; buffering is a separate media, server, codec, or network problem. Test a local file, then a lawful network source, and use Fire TV Network Status before changing Kodi settings.
