How to Screen Mirror to Firestick: Android and Windows

Last verified: August 3, 2026. I checked Amazon’s current Fire TV screen-mirroring, compatibility, app-casting, AirPlay, display troubleshooting, and software-update guidance linked below. Availability varies by Fire TV model, device support, Fire OS version, and network conditions.

To screen mirror to a compatible Firestick, place both devices on the same Wi-Fi network, then open Settings → Display & Audio → Enable Display Mirroring on Fire TV. On a compatible Android device, open its Cast, Smart View, Wireless Display, or Mirroring control. On Windows, press Windows key + K and select the Fire TV.

That method uses Miracast. It is not available on every Fire TV, Android phone, or Windows computer. If Enable Display Mirroring is missing from Fire TV Settings, Amazon says that Fire TV device is incompatible with its standard screen-mirroring feature.

Check compatibility before troubleshooting

Source deviceStandard Fire TV mirroringWhat to check
Android phone or tabletSometimesAndroid 4.2 or newer is not enough by itself; the device must also support Miracast
Windows 11 or Windows 10 PCSometimesPress Windows key + K; the PC needs Wireless Display/Miracast support
iPhone or iPadNo, not through standard Fire TV MiracastA supported Fire TV Smart TV may offer AirPlay separately
MacNo, not through standard Fire TV MiracastCheck whether the exact Fire TV Smart TV supports AirPlay
App with a Cast buttonSometimes, app by appAmazon says compatible casting apps require Fire OS 7 or later and the same Wi-Fi network

Amazon lists iOS, macOS, Android devices older than 4.2, Android devices without Miracast, and Windows devices without Wireless Display support as incompatible with standard Fire TV screen mirroring.

Do not assume every modern Android phone supports Miracast. Manufacturers can use different wireless-display technologies or remove Miracast support. Google Pixel behavior, menu names, and support vary by model and software. Check the phone manufacturer's current specification or help page when no mirroring control appears.

Mirroring, casting, and the Fire TV remote are different

Screen mirroring duplicates the phone or computer display. Amazon notes that every action performed on the source appears on the TV.

In-app casting sends supported video from one app to Fire TV. The phone remains a controller, so the TV does not necessarily show the entire phone screen. Amazon currently documents app casting on Fire OS 7 or higher. Prime Video also requires the mobile app and Fire TV to use the same Amazon account.

The Fire TV mobile app works as a remote. It does not make an incompatible phone a Miracast source.

Use a licensed Fire TV app or the app's supported Cast button for protected streaming video whenever possible. Full-device mirroring can show a black screen when an app, service, operating system, or connection path restricts protected playback. This guide does not bypass those controls.

1. Enable Display Mirroring on Firestick

  1. Turn on Fire TV and wait for the Home screen.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Select Display & Audio.
  4. Select Enable Display Mirroring.
  5. Leave the mirroring screen open while connecting the phone or computer.

Amazon says that if the option is absent, the Fire TV is incompatible with this mirroring method. Installing an unrelated receiver app does not add native Miracast hardware support, and changing Developer Options is not part of Amazon's mirroring procedure.

Keep the Fire TV and source device on the same Wi-Fi network. Amazon also recommends keeping them within about 30 feet or 10 metres of each other.

2. Mirror a compatible Android device

Android manufacturers use different names and menu locations. Look in Quick Settings or the device's connection settings for a control such as:

  • Cast;
  • Smart View;
  • Screen Mirroring;
  • Wireless Display;
  • Screen Share;
  • Multi-screen.

Then:

  1. Confirm the Fire TV mirroring screen is open.
  2. Open the phone or tablet's supported mirroring control.
  3. Enable wireless display discovery if the manufacturer provides that option.
  4. Select the Fire TV name.
  5. Accept any connection prompt shown on the television or source device.
  6. Wait for the phone screen to appear before opening the content you want to share.

If no Fire TV appears, first verify that the Android device actually supports Miracast. A Cast menu can sometimes be designed for a different protocol and therefore may not discover Fire TV's standard mirroring receiver.

For private information, enable Do Not Disturb and close password managers, banking apps, private messages, and sensitive browser tabs before mirroring. Notifications and every visible action may appear on the television.

3. Mirror a compatible Windows PC

Microsoft's current Windows guidance uses this path for an external Miracast display:

  1. Open Enable Display Mirroring on Fire TV.
  2. Turn on Wi-Fi on the Windows computer.
  3. Press Windows key + K.
  4. Select the Fire TV from the available displays.
  5. Follow any additional on-screen instructions.

If Windows reports that the device must use a cable, Microsoft says the computer may not support Miracast. The Fire TV and PC both need compatible wireless-display support.

After connecting, press Windows key + P if you need to choose a display mode. Duplicate is the conventional mirroring choice. Extended-desktop behavior depends on the receiver and connection, so use Duplicate when the goal is to reproduce the laptop screen on the television.

Update the computer's supported Wi-Fi and graphics drivers through Windows Update or the hardware manufacturer's official support route when Miracast previously worked but has disappeared. Avoid third-party driver-download sites.

4. Understand iPhone, iPad, and Mac limitations

Amazon says iOS and macOS do not support its standard Fire TV screen-mirroring feature. The normal Miracast steps above therefore do not apply to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Some Fire TV Smart TVs support Apple AirPlay as a separate feature. On a compatible television, Amazon's path is:

Settings → Display & Audio → AirPlay & HomeKit

Follow the television's on-screen setup instructions. AirPlay is not available on every Fire TV Smart TV, and the presence of a Fire TV interface does not prove that a particular television supports it.

A Fire TV Stick connected to a television and a Fire TV Smart TV are also not the same product. Check the exact television or Fire TV model before buying an adapter or app. When native AirPlay is unavailable, use the streaming service's official Fire TV app, a supported in-app casting route, or a manufacturer-supported wired adapter for content that permits external display output.

5. Use in-app casting when full mirroring is unnecessary

For an app that displays a Cast icon:

  1. Confirm the mobile device and Fire TV are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open the supported app.
  3. Tap its Cast icon.
  4. Select the Fire TV.
  5. Use the mobile device or Fire TV remote for supported playback controls.
  6. Tap the Cast icon and disconnect when finished.

Amazon says this feature works with supported casting apps on Fire OS 7 or later. Availability still depends on the app, Fire TV model, account, country, and media rights. A Cast icon inside one app does not prove that the phone supports whole-screen Miracast.

6. Fix a Fire TV that does not appear

Work through these checks in order:

  1. Confirm Enable Display Mirroring exists and remains open on Fire TV.
  2. Verify Miracast support on both the source device and Fire TV.
  3. Put both devices on the same normal home Wi-Fi network.
  4. Move them within 30 feet or 10 metres.
  5. Turn Wi-Fi off and on once on the source device.
  6. Restart Fire TV and the phone or computer.
  7. Update Fire TV and the source device through their official settings.
  8. Restart the modem or router if discovery fails across otherwise compatible devices.

Guest networks and client-isolation settings can prevent local devices from discovering one another. That is a network configuration inference rather than a Fire TV-specific Amazon rule, so consult the router manufacturer's documentation before changing it.

If Fire TV joins Wi-Fi but cannot reach services, follow the Firestick Wi-Fi connected but no internet guide. If mirroring works but repeatedly freezes, use the stream buffering and network diagnostic to separate Wi-Fi congestion from a source or app problem.

7. Fix a black screen or no picture

First identify which screen is black:

  • If the television says No Signal before the Fire TV interface appears, troubleshoot power, input, HDMI, and receiver connections with the Firestick no-signal guide.
  • If Fire TV menus display normally but mirrored protected video is black, stop full-screen mirroring and use the service's licensed Fire TV app or supported Cast feature.
  • If the whole mirrored desktop is black, disconnect, restart both devices, reopen the Fire TV mirroring screen, and reconnect.
  • If video appears but sound does not, check the source app's output, Fire TV volume path, television input settings, and any receiver or soundbar.

Do not disable digital-rights protections, install modified streaming apps, or use capture hardware to defeat a service restriction. A black protected-video window can be expected behavior, not a Firestick fault.

8. Disconnect safely

Amazon says pressing any button on the Fire TV remote exits standard screen mirroring. You can also disconnect from the phone's mirroring control or the Windows Windows key + K panel.

Alexa is unavailable on Fire TV while standard mirroring is active. End the connection when finished, especially on a shared television, so notifications and later screen activity do not remain visible.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Enable Display Mirroring missing on my Firestick?

Amazon says a Fire TV without that Settings option is incompatible with its standard screen-mirroring feature. Identify the exact model and use a supported in-app casting or external-display alternative.

Can I mirror an iPhone directly to a Firestick?

Not with Amazon's standard Fire TV Miracast feature. Some compatible Fire TV Smart TVs offer AirPlay separately under Display & Audio, but support is model-specific.

Why does my Android phone have Cast but not find Fire TV?

The phone's Cast control may use a technology other than Miracast, or one of the devices may be incompatible. Confirm Miracast support, reopen Fire TV's mirroring screen, and verify both devices use the same Wi-Fi network.

How do I mirror Windows 11 to Firestick?

Open Enable Display Mirroring on Fire TV, press Windows key + K on the PC, and choose the Fire TV. If Windows says a cable is required, the PC may not support Miracast.

Why does Netflix or another streaming app show a black screen?

Protected playback may not permit full-device mirroring. Use the service's official Fire TV app or its supported Cast route instead of trying to bypass the restriction.

Does screen mirroring need internet?

Amazon's setup requires both devices on the same Wi-Fi network. Local discovery and the mirrored connection are different from the internet connection, but online apps still need internet access to load content.
