Reviewed: August 2, 2026
You can watch the NFL without cable in 2026, but no single inexpensive subscription carries every game live on a television. Sunday afternoon games are split between CBS and FOX, Sunday Night Football is on NBC and Peacock, Monday Night Football is on ESPN and ABC, Thursday Night Football is on Prime Video, and selected holiday, international and late-season games appear on Netflix, NFL Network or other national platforms.
The best setup depends on whether you need only your local team, every out-of-market Sunday afternoon game, live viewing on a television, or complete replays. This guide separates those use cases and explains the device, location and blackout limits before you subscribe.
NFL channels and streaming services at a glance
| Game type | Primary 2026 US coverage | Cable-free option | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local Sunday afternoon games | CBS and FOX | Antenna; Paramount+ for the local CBS game; FOX One for NFL on FOX; live-TV streaming service | The game depends on the local market assignment |
| Out-of-market Sunday afternoon games | NFL Sunday Ticket | Sunday Ticket through YouTube Primetime Channels or as a YouTube TV add-on | Does not include local, national, international, preseason or postseason games |
| Sunday Night Football | NBC | Peacock; antenna where NBC is receivable | Live sports contain ads; local reception varies |
| Monday Night Football | ESPN and selected ABC simulcasts | ESPN Unlimited; a live-TV streaming service; antenna only when the game is on local ABC | ESPN Select does not include the full ESPN network feed |
| Thursday Night Football | Prime Video | Amazon Prime or the eligible standalone Prime Video subscription | Usually not included in live-TV channel bundles |
| NFL Network games | NFL Network | NFL+ on supported devices; a service carrying NFL Network | NFL+ live regular-season video is limited to phones and tablets |
| Netflix exclusives | Netflix | Any eligible Netflix plan | Event availability and local exceptions vary; limited eligible-market trial |
| Local and primetime mobile viewing | NFL+ | NFL+ or NFL+ Premium | Live video is restricted to phones and tablets |
| Full, condensed and All-22 replays | NFL+ Premium | NFL+ Premium | Replay access is not the same as live TV access |
| International viewing outside the US | Local rights holder; NFL Game Pass on DAZN in many markets | NFL Game Pass or the licensed local service | Rights, blackouts and prices vary by country |
The NFL's official Ways to Watch tool can show a location-specific schedule. Because flex scheduling can change some late-season assignments, check it again during game week.
The cheapest way to watch local NFL games
Use an antenna for CBS, FOX, NBC and ABC
An over-the-air antenna is the only durable no-monthly-fee option for many local and nationally broadcast games. Where reception is available, it can deliver:
- The local Sunday afternoon game on CBS or FOX
- Sunday Night Football on NBC
- Monday Night Football games simulcast on ABC
- Many Thanksgiving and playoff games
- The Super Bowl when it airs on a broadcast network
An antenna is not an internet stream. Results depend on the viewer's address, distance from the transmitter, terrain, building materials, antenna type and placement. Run a channel scan and test CBS, FOX, NBC and ABC before the season rather than buying several streaming services first.
For an address-first antenna check, current streaming-service prices, free PBS and local-news options, and ZIP-code lineup steps, use the local channels without cable guide.
An antenna will not carry Prime Video exclusives, Netflix exclusives, most ESPN-only games or out-of-market Sunday Ticket games. Some streaming-exclusive games also receive local broadcast coverage in the participating teams' home markets, but the station can be announced later.
Stream the local CBS game with Paramount+
NFL on CBS games airing on the viewer's local CBS station can stream live on any Paramount+ plan. Paramount+ Essential includes the NFL on CBS event even though it does not include the continuous local CBS station. Premium adds the local CBS live station in supported markets and other plan features.
The official Paramount+ 2026 NFL schedule confirms that only the games assigned to the viewer's local CBS station are available. Paramount+ does not replace Sunday Ticket for an out-of-market CBS game.
Current direct US prices checked August 2 are $8.99 per month for Essential and $13.99 per month or $139.99 per year for Premium. Promotions, taxes and third-party billing can change the total, so verify checkout terms.
Stream NFL on FOX with FOX One
FOX One is FOX's direct streaming route for NFL on FOX without a traditional cable package. It currently costs $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year and advertises a short trial for eligible new accounts. The trial and price can change or renew automatically.
FOX One carries the FOX feed available to the account and location; it is not an out-of-market Sunday package. The service works on current browsers, mobile devices and many Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV, smart-TV, Xbox and Prime Video Channel setups. Check the exact local event and device before paying.
If CBS and FOX reception is strong at your address, an antenna can be a better value than maintaining both Paramount+ and FOX One.
How to watch Sunday Night Football without cable
Sunday Night Football airs on NBC and streams on Peacock. A receivable NBC affiliate provides the free over-the-air option. Peacock is the direct streaming option for a television, streaming device, phone, tablet or computer.
Peacock Premium currently costs $10.99 per month or $109.99 per year. Premium Plus costs $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year. Both include live NFL coverage, and live sports contain advertising on both tiers. Peacock's official NFL page confirms the 2026 season and supported subscription route.
NFL+ can also show local and primetime games live in the US, but only on phones and tablets. It is not a substitute for Peacock if you want the live game on a television.
How to watch Monday Night Football without cable
Monday Night Football airs on ESPN, with selected games also appearing on ABC and related ESPN networks. In 2026, the direct cable-free route is ESPN Unlimited, not the lower ESPN Select plan.
ESPN Unlimited includes ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS, ESPN Deportes, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPN+ and ESPN on ABC. ESPN lists Monday Night Football as included and currently charges $29.99 per month for the standalone Unlimited plan. Bundles and promotions can change.
ESPN Select is the renamed ESPN+ content tier; it does not provide the complete linear ESPN network package. The official ESPN NFL page explains the difference and lists current plans.
When a Monday game is simulcast on ABC, a local ABC affiliate may also be available with an antenna. Do not assume every Monday game will be on ABC; check the game listing first.
How to watch Thursday Night Football without cable
Thursday Night Football streams on Prime Video during the regular season. The NFL's official 2026 primetime schedule identifies TNF on Prime Video and notes that flex scheduling can affect some late-season games.
Prime Video is included with Amazon Prime, currently $14.99 per month or $139 per year in the United States. An eligible standalone Prime Video subscription may also be available. Trials are limited to eligible accounts and convert to paid service unless cancelled.
Prime Video works on current Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Google TV/Chromecast, smart TVs, browsers, phones, tablets, PlayStation and Xbox. Local broadcast coverage is generally available in the participating teams' home markets, but the station assignment can vary.
Most live-TV streaming bundles do not carry the Prime Video feed. YouTube TV, for example, explicitly says Thursday Night Football on Amazon is not included in its channel plan.
Netflix NFL games in 2026
Netflix carries selected NFL games that sit outside the usual weekly channel pattern. The 2026 schedule includes the 49ers-Rams Melbourne opener, Packers-Rams on Thanksgiving Eve, selected Christmas games and a Week 18 Saturday game.
Every eligible Netflix plan includes its live NFL events without a separate event fee. Netflix currently offers a limited free trial only to eligible new members in certain countries. If it does not appear automatically during signup, no trial is available for that location or device. Live events can contain advertising on all plans, and replay availability is not guaranteed permanently.
Netflix supports live events on most current televisions, streaming devices, phones, tablets, browsers and consoles, but some older Chromecast hardware and casting methods do not support live playback. Open the event tile on the exact device before game day.
For the Melbourne opener, see the complete 49ers vs Rams Melbourne watch guide. The NFL Thanksgiving 2026 guide covers all five games from Wednesday through Black Friday.
What NFL+ includes—and what it does not
NFL+ is useful for mobile live viewing, NFL Network and audio. It is often misunderstood as a complete television streaming package.
The standard NFL+ plan includes:
- Live out-of-market preseason games on supported devices
- Live local and primetime regular-season and postseason games on phones and tablets
- NFL Network on supported devices
- Live audio for every game across supported devices
NFL+ Premium adds NFL RedZone and full, condensed and All-22 replays across supported devices. The NFL's official NFL+ coverage page confirms that live local and primetime regular-season video remains limited to phones and tablets.
Current direct prices are $6.99 per month or $49.99 per year for NFL+, and $14.99 per month or $99.99 per year for NFL+ Premium. App-store billing can add fees.
NFL+ does not provide every out-of-market Sunday afternoon game live. It also does not let you move its live local or primetime video to a Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, game console or smart TV. Premium replays can play later on supported connected devices.
Do you need NFL Sunday Ticket?
NFL Sunday Ticket is for regular-season Sunday afternoon CBS and FOX games that are not carried in the viewer's local market. It is useful for an out-of-market team fan, a fantasy-football household or someone who wants the widest Sunday-afternoon selection.
It is available as:
- An add-on to an eligible YouTube TV plan
- A standalone YouTube Primetime Channel without a YouTube TV base subscription
The standalone option includes only eligible out-of-market Sunday afternoon games. It excludes preseason, postseason, local games, national games, international games, digital exclusives, Sunday night, Monday night and Thursday night.
The official YouTube Sunday Ticket coverage guide explains the exclusions. YouTube TV's base plan currently costs $82.99 per month and adds local and national channels; Sunday Ticket pricing varies by season, customer status, promotion, payment schedule and RedZone selection. Check the current checkout page rather than relying on an expired introductory offer.
You do not need Sunday Ticket if you only watch the games assigned to your local CBS and FOX stations plus national primetime games. You also do not need it for Netflix international games, NFL Network games or playoffs.
Can one live-TV streaming service cover most games?
YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, DirecTV Stream and Sling can reduce app switching by bundling some combination of CBS, FOX, NBC, ABC, ESPN and NFL Network. They still differ by ZIP code, plan and add-on.
Before subscribing, enter your ZIP code and verify:
- Local CBS, FOX, NBC and ABC affiliates
- ESPN and NFL Network
- DVR storage and recording restrictions
- Home and away-from-home stream limits
- Trial length, promotional period and renewal price
Even a broad live-TV bundle may still require Prime Video for Thursday night, Netflix for selected exclusives and Sunday Ticket for out-of-market Sunday afternoon games.
Best NFL setup by viewing goal
| Viewing goal | Practical starting setup |
|---|---|
| Cheapest local-team coverage | Antenna first; add the one service needed for an exclusive game |
| Local CBS games on streaming devices | Paramount+ Essential or Premium |
| Sunday Night Football | NBC antenna or Peacock Premium |
| Monday Night Football | ESPN Unlimited; use ABC antenna when that game is simulcast |
| Thursday Night Football | Prime Video |
| Every eligible out-of-market Sunday afternoon game | NFL Sunday Ticket, plus local/national coverage separately |
| Mobile live local and primetime games | NFL+ |
| Full and condensed replays | NFL+ Premium |
| Most games in one interface | Verify a live-TV bundle, then add Prime Video, Netflix or Sunday Ticket only as needed |
The lowest total often comes from rotating subscriptions around the schedule instead of paying for every service for five months. Check cancellation dates carefully and do not count an expired promotion as the normal price.
2026 NFL event guides on Start2Watch
The platform can change by game type and country. These verified event pages provide exact kickoffs and local viewing details:
- NFL Kickoff Game 2026
- 49ers vs Rams in Melbourne
- Ravens vs Cowboys in Rio
- Falcons vs Bengals in Madrid
- Vikings vs 49ers in Mexico City
- NFL Thanksgiving Games 2026
Watching the NFL outside the United States
US subscriptions and channel assignments do not automatically travel internationally. In many countries, NFL Game Pass on DAZN provides live and on-demand access, while a local broadcaster may carry selected games. Country-specific blackouts, device limits, commentary languages and prices can apply.
Use the NFL's official international viewing directory and the local DAZN checkout page. Confirm the exact game tile rather than assuming a service named as a general league partner carries every streaming-exclusive matchup.
A VPN can protect traffic on public Wi-Fi, but it does not grant rights to a service, guarantee that a stream will work, or remove the need for a valid subscription. Streaming platforms can enforce home-area, payment-country, GPS and travel rules. Follow the service terms and local law.
Free and legal NFL viewing options
The reliable free or no-monthly-fee routes are limited:
- CBS, FOX, NBC and ABC through an antenna where the signal is receivable
- Participating-team-market broadcasts for some streaming-exclusive games
- Temporary trials offered to eligible new accounts
- Free highlights and clips from official NFL and broadcaster channels
An antenna has an equipment cost but no recurring television subscription. Trials can renew automatically and may exclude returning customers.
Sites, social accounts and unlicensed IPTV sellers promising every NFL game free or extremely cheaply may lack distribution rights. They can disappear mid-game, expose viewers to malware or copied credentials, and offer no reliable refund or privacy protection. Start2Watch does not link to unauthorized restreams.
Devices, streams and replay planning
Before paying, test the service on the device you will actually use. A plan that works on a phone may have different live rights on a television.
- Television viewing: Antenna, Paramount+, FOX One, Peacock, ESPN Unlimited, Prime Video, Netflix, Sunday Ticket and live-TV services generally support compatible connected TVs.
- NFL+ live viewing: Local and primetime regular-season games are phone/tablet-only.
- Multiple screens: Limits differ by service and can change at home versus while travelling.
- DVR: Live-TV services may record channel games; standalone apps have different replay windows.
- Complete replays: NFL+ Premium is the clearest US route for full, condensed and All-22 formats.
For network planning, use the internet speed needed for streaming guide. If the stream freezes or drops resolution, follow the stream buffering diagnostic. Fire TV users can also use the Firestick Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide.

- Open the official event tile 15 to 20 minutes before kickoff.
How to watch NFL without cable FAQs
Can I watch every NFL game without cable?
Yes, through a combination of legal streaming services and local broadcasts. No single low-cost app carries every live game on a television. A complete setup can require local CBS/FOX/NBC/ABC access, ESPN, Prime Video, Netflix, NFL Network and Sunday Ticket for out-of-market Sunday games.
What is the cheapest way to watch NFL games?
Start with an antenna for local CBS, FOX, NBC and ABC. Add only the service needed for games your antenna cannot receive. An out-of-market team fan may need Sunday Ticket, while a local-team fan often does not.
Can Paramount+ show every CBS NFL game?
No. It streams the NFL on CBS game carried by the viewer's local CBS station. It does not unlock other markets' CBS games.
Can I watch NFL on FOX without cable?
Yes. Use an antenna for the local FOX affiliate, FOX One, or a verified live-TV service carrying the local FOX station. The local market assignment still determines which Sunday afternoon game appears.
Is Monday Night Football included with ESPN+ or ESPN Select?
The complete ESPN network feed is part of ESPN Unlimited. ESPN Select is the ESPN+ content tier and should not be treated as a replacement for ESPN Unlimited when the goal is every Monday Night Football broadcast.
Does NFL+ work live on a smart TV?
Not for local and primetime regular-season live video. That access is limited to phones and tablets. NFL+ Premium replays and NFL Network work across supported devices according to their specific rights.
Does NFL Sunday Ticket include playoffs or Thursday Night Football?
No. Sunday Ticket covers eligible out-of-market regular-season Sunday afternoon games. It excludes preseason, postseason, local and nationally distributed games, including Thursday, Sunday night and Monday night.
Can I watch NFL games free online?
No complete licensed website carries the entire season free. Antenna broadcasts can be watched without a monthly fee, and some services offer limited eligible trials. Official highlight channels provide free clips rather than every full live game.
Which service has NFL replays?
NFL+ Premium provides full, condensed and All-22 replays across supported devices. Broadcaster apps and DVR services may also provide recordings or temporary on-demand access, but their windows differ.
Can I use a VPN to watch an out-of-market game?
A VPN does not create viewing rights or replace a valid subscription. Services can enforce home-market, travel, payment and location rules. Use the licensed service for the country where you are physically located and follow its terms.
Verification and update policy
This guide was verified August 2, 2026 using official NFL, NFL+, YouTube, Paramount+, Peacock, ESPN, Prime Video and Netflix sources for the 2026 distribution pattern, live-device restrictions, local-market rules, Sunday Ticket exclusions, prices and replay options.
Netflix's free-trial policy was rechecked on August 6, 2026. The conditional offer is not a guaranteed or nationwide free route and must be confirmed during signup.
Start2Watch will recheck prices, flex scheduling, holiday exclusives, device support, free trials and playoff assignments throughout the season. Material changes will be corrected and the visible verification date updated.
